Our Meet the Team Monday posts are designed to introduce and highlight team members who work with our employees and our affiliates every day. We interviewed 4 employees who represent a variety of different departments and roles. Each person had a unique story to tell, and we’ve learned some pretty interesting things about our teammates along the way (we’ve got sailboat racers, globe trekkers, and industry leaders all under the same roof)!
Meet Andrea Kowalczyk, Recruiter
Andrea supports our affiliates in attracting, sourcing, and integrating skilled providers for their practices. This includes both Hygienists, and General Dentists. Her career with American Dental Partners started at the affiliate level with Carus Dental. Andrea joined a Carus Dental practice in Houston upon graduating from Hygiene school. As she grew professionally, she began to mentor other Carus hygienists in Houston, then all of Texas, and eventually she became a Regional Hygiene Mentor for ADPI, supporting five of our different affiliate groups. She stepped away from her role for a short time to start her family, and returned as a Dental Hygiene Recruiter. She currently recruits for hygienists as well as doctors.
What’s your favorite part about coming to work?
I have two things, actually. I enjoy helping an office secure a talented clinician, and also being able to assist clinicians find rewarding work. I feel extremely lucky to be part of such a meaningful process.
What have you learned from working with our affiliates
That no matter where we are geographically, most people want the same thing; to do great work, make an impact, and be understood.
Why did you choose to pursue a career as a Recruiter?
With my personality as a people person, and my background as a hygienist working with hundreds of hygienists across the country, I knew I had something to contribute in terms of recruiting. I also like to meet short term goals, so placing folks in careers gives me a lot of satisfaction. Recruiting is a natural fit for me. It sounds corny, but I have found my niche.
Who has been your strongest mentor at ADPI?
Many folks have helped me along my journey. Specifically, I would have to say Dr. Ray Scott, Dr. Paul Bates, Jennifer Pronobis, and Anna Robinson. With their support and guidance, I have been able to continue to grow not only as a professional, but as an individual as well.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
When a hygienist sends me a note saying they love their new job, or a PM or doctor says they are happy with their new hire. In the recruiting role, you get to know a lot of people on a very personal level. Helping them to make a smooth transition and not just filling a job, but filling it with the right person, is a rewarding process for everyone.
On to the Fun Stuff…
What are some of your hobbies/ interests?
Reading historical biographies, genealogy, and fixing up old things. Right now I am restoring an old dollhouse I had as a child.
What’s one item you couldn’t live without?
Google Maps on my i-phone. I would be lost without it (…literally!)
If you could meet any famous person living or deceased, who would it be and why?
Thomas Edison. He lived a fascinating life and was almost pathologically curious and persistent.
How do you de-stress or unwind after a long day?
Reading a good book. I like everything from biographies and novels to crime and mystery stories.
